I live to serve the local church in any way that my unique gifts can help her toward maturity, joy and impact.
I am teaching bible and leadership classes at the seminary level for Grace School of Theology, where I am also studying to earn my Doctorate of Ministry. I continue to write and preach God’s Word to God’s people around the country, I am also enjoying helping churches as a coach and consultant in various areas. I was born and raised in Falls City, Texas, a tiny town in south Texas. My parents and younger brother still live there, as do several other aunts and cousins. After high school I served the Texas FFA Organization as state president, traveling across the great state speaking at hundreds of high schools about leadership. This is where I fell in love with people and communication. But even though I had grown up in the church in Falls City, the simple gospel of grace did not make any sense to me until my first few weeks of school at Texas A&M University. There, through some new friends and the ministry of Breakaway, I heard and understood the reason why Jesus died on the cross, and what it meant that He rose from the dead. By my faith in Him, simple trust that Jesus is God and that He paid the cost of my sin, I was forgiven and accepted by God, forever secure in Him. The oft-used phrase has never had fuller meaning: my life dramatically changed. I immediately began the journey that I continue today, the journey of a disciple and servant. I began reading my bible and worshipping with a brand new heart, engaging in Christian community and volunteering at a local church, where my calling and gifts first came into union. Since those days in the early 90’s, I have been honored to serve the local church simply because God united a message (the gospel) and passion (gifts of the Holy Spirit) to the love I already had for people and communication. His plan was gloriously clear. I was born and raised in Falls City, Texas, a tiny town in south Texas. My parents and younger brother still live there, as do several other aunts and cousins. His plan was gloriously clear. I met my wife at a bible study in late 1999, while I was a student pastor, and we were married in late 2000. Liza is from an Australian missionary family, passionate about missions, the arts and Jesus. Our first child, Andrew, arrived miraculously through an open adoption unmistakably arranged by God’s grace. Our second child, Isabel, arrived more commonly but no less miraculously because of our long struggle with infertility. Our perfect little family of four remains the center of my heart. We have enjoyed years of travel, mission, service and fun and look forward to many more. I have been blessed to serve the local church in various roles for almost 30 years now. While I began as a volunteer, I then followed God into student ministry for over 10 years and then an Adult Teaching Pastor for a few months on my way to a Lead/Senior Pastor role that I enjoyed for over 12 years. During some of the transitional years I earned my Masters of Theology degree in New Testament from Dallas Theological Seminary where I joyfully discovered some added clarity and specificity to my passions and gifts. After leaving my role as Lead Pastor in December 2021, I find myself in an unexpectedly beautiful season of listening to God and following Him without the boundaries of a single full-time job. Currently I continue to write and preach God’s Word to God’s people around the country, I am also enjoying helping churches as a coach and consultant in various areas.
